Learning to Manage Money

Afraid of Success

Are you Afraid of Success?

I think to some degree, we (the middle class) are afraid to be successful with wealth accumulation. In the mainstream media, we always read about people like Bernie Madoff, who rob people of their life savings, but are caught and go to prison for the rest of their life.

Let’s admit it, we are to a certain extent brainwashing into thinking that the rich are the bad guys. So if you take it a step further, if you become rich, then you too are a bad guy! But this obviously is not true!  There is no crossover point where all of a sudden you are rich and “BAM”, you’re now a Bernie Madoff.

Afraid of Success

Half the battle in wealth accumulation is the mental hurdles that we all create in our minds, either consciously or subconsciously. What I’m suggesting is not to jump higher to clear the mental hurdles, instead run in a lane that doesn’t have the hurdles! Wealth accumulation doesn’t make you a bad person. You are a “Good” or “Bad” person before you start your wealth accumulation journey. Money is just a tool, it’s not alive and it doesn’t really change you mentally.

Some of us are even afraid to try because of some much regulation and paperwork.  This is not a good reason to not try though either.  It’s sad that there are so many deterrents for people to create a living anymore.  How much more UN-American can the United States become with respect to small business?  I think those making the policies never owned a small business before, and have no idea how hard it is to grow one.  When you are starting out, and if you keep good records (as in bookkeeping records), then how bad could any requirements be?  I think this is just another mental hurdle to over come too.  Perhaps if you overcome your fear and combine the principle in “Correct Ways to Become Wealthy“, you and drastically increase your wealth?

Next Year, instead of letting your mental hurdles hold you back, let’s pick a wealth accumulation lane that is hurdle free, or has very small hurdles.

Let’s crush wealth accumulation next year!

  1. I think a lot of us too are afraid of dedicating ourselves to a money management or investing strategy. Staying the course is very frightening and not the most picturesque way to accumulate wealth. However it is my opinion that writing it all down, focusing on it and working hard towards that goal is the best way possible.
